Outside the hustle and bustle of the city of Atlanta lies the town of Millidgeville, GA, a historic town and popular vacation spot. The town, and in particular a rustic log cabin home built in 1988 on the shore of Lake Sinclair, caught the eye of HGTV host/designer Chip Wade and his wife Pauli. The couple named the place Misty Mill, after Pauli’s family house in the town of Misty Mountain, NC – the “Mill” is short for Milledgeville.
The property was in need of repair and posed particular challenges given its construction. Chip had done over 2,000 renovations – but this was his first log cabin. However, the design goal was clear: Chip and Pauli wanted to create a getaway that was “a little whimsical and a little ’50s sleepaway camp”.
Check out this 3D version of the house before the project started:
For the back yard facing the lake, the team removed the rotting deck and replaced it with composite decking. A new Feeney DesignRail® aluminum railing with CableRail infill was chosen to allow for unobstructed views of the surrounding landscape. With the addition of these new features, the expansive new exterior living space gave room for an outdoor kitchen to allow for entertaining with family and friends. The addition of hardscaping and lighting made this a truly magical place to relax and unwind.
Inside, the space was modernized and lightened up, with custom tile features in the kitchen and bathrooms, an industrial style chandelier, and an ombre wall in the living room leading up to the loft. Here again Feeney’s stylistically versatile DesignRail® was chosen as one of the elements to modernize the rustic interior, while not detracting from its original charm. The sleek CableRail infill created a more open floorplan between the loft area and the living room and dining area below.
